Mosaic and ceramics are a living part of our identity. For centuries, they have told the story of the land, shaped by the meeting of different cultures, such as the Arab-Norman heritage of Monreale. Through clay, color, and fire, matter comes to life and becomes art.
Each tile and fragment preserves tradition, creativity, and collective memory.
Rediscovering these arts today means reconnecting with the land, awakening craftsmanship, and finding in simple gestures the beauty of belonging and community.
Objective and Purpose
Our Journey.
This mini course is not just a hands-on workshop: it is a small sensory and creative journey, where participants will be guided to discover an ancient and fascinating art.
The goal is to allow each participant to experience a complete process — from raw material to finished piece — rediscovering the cultural and identity value that mosaic and ceramics have preserved over the centuries.
The purpose is twofold: on one hand, to promote and enhance our artistic traditions; on the other, to stimulate personal creativity, giving each participant the opportunity to take home not only a unique piece, but also a special memory connected to the local territory.
The Path
Signs, Geometries, and Personal Shades
For three hours, hands and imagination will take center stage.
The journey begins with fresh clay, to be shaped and carved into small tiles, each one unique.
Next comes the color: brushes and pigments will bring to life signs, geometries, and personal shades, making every fragment one-of-a-kind.
The following phase is composition: like the little artists of the past, participants will assemble the tiles on a base, weaving together imagination and memory to create a mosaic that tells a story of identity and belonging.
Finally, heat will transform the clay into ceramic, fixing shapes and colors. Before each participant’s eyes, the piece will come to life and can be taken home as a tangible memory of the experience.
Conclusion
The course is not limited to teaching a technique: it offers an encounter with the material, with history, and with oneself. Each participant will take home not only an object crafted with their own hands, but also the emotion of having taken part in an ancient ritual, made of earth, fire, and color.
